California oil refineries help provide the affordable and reliable energy we need to power our high quality, modern way of life, while creating thousands of good local jobs. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) mandates a fuel standard that is the most stringent in the world to ensure our energy use is balanced with emission reductions and environmental protections.  Modified Hydrofluoric Acid (MHF) is a key component of California refineries’ abilities to make gasoline that meets this strict standard.

The South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) is considering banning oil refineries’ use of MHF via Proposed Rule 1410, likely causing two Southern California refineries to cease operations, according to the California Energy Commission.  Banning MHF could devastate California’s economy and could result in thousands of local jobs lost and higher prices for gasoline and consumer goods for California’s residents and businesses.
